These aren't formats — they're labels you'll see used to describe the story or its intended audience, and they cut across anime, donghua, manga, manhwa, manhua, and novels alike.
Nope — and it trips up newer fans (and honestly, sometimes us too, like it just did with Release That Witch). "Anime" specifically means animation from Japan. Animation from China is donghua, and animation from Korea generally gets called Korean animation rather than anime. Same logic for the comics: manga is Japanese, manhwa is Korean, manhua is Chinese. They overlap constantly — a manhua gets adapted into a donghua, a manhwa becomes a K-drama — but the country of origin is what decides the label, not the style.
